The New Science on Willpower

- I’m super motivated to work out. Starting tomorrow, I will begin my exercise routine.

Tomorrow comes and a work meeting was scheduled at the same time. The workout never happened. Sounds familiar?

You may have the motivation but that little driver that makes it happen is willpower. One of the most incredible discoveries in the last few years has been the realization that willpower is a finite resource. What that means is that you are given a certain amount of willpower per day and once you’ve exhausted that supply, you find yourself feeling much less able to act on the motivation that you may feel.

So in essence, the more decisions you make in a day, the more likely you are to become fatigued by these choices. As time goes on, willpower goes down, and your ability to follow through on your motivations declines.
Fascinating!!!
